On Day 3 of 2014 Men’s Youth Pan Am Championships being held in Puerto Rico spectators witnessed 3 matches of fast paced, end to end Hockey 5 action as the participating teams all jostled for positioning that would allow them easier paths to the semi finals. The first match of Day 3 was between Argentina and Mexico. Pan American giants, Argentina scored an early goal in the 2nd minute of play with a field goal from their captain, #7 M. Casella, leading by example. Mexico equalized two minutes later with a field goal by their captain, #24, A Valdez Salas. In a brilliant solo effort Argentine # 8, Lean, scored, eliminating 3 players to slip the ball into the goal. Only a minute later Argentine #4, T. Domene, skillfully lifted the ball followed by a reverse stick shot to score their 4th goal of the match. Argentina then won a challenge which was scored by their captain #7, M. Casella. Despite a great save by the Mexican goalie, Argentina then scored a rebound seconds before the break to bring the score to 5-0.
Argentina went on to score 4 more early goals in the 2nd period to increase their lead to 9-0. Through some quick passing Mexico replied with a tap in on the last post by #8, R. Lemus Diaz to end the 2nd period 9-2. In an effort to get themselves back into the game Mexico tried to play more possession but a defensive blunder allowed Argentina to go into double figures to bring the score to 10-2. #9 for Argentina, M. Ferreiro scored their 11th goal by a powerful strike down the centre of the park, 10 yards from the goal. Argentina then scored on the blast of the final whistle to end the game 12-2.
