The classic match which remained on the other side of the Andes range
The host country of the X ODESUR, South American Games faced today the defending champion, Argentina. This was supposed to be an important match for both teams, as winning would almost indicate classification to the final instances.
Both, Chile and Argentina did their best to score early in the match; this made this first half mostly a tactical game in which both teams used their intelligence to intend to break their defensive systems. The first half was a close affair for both teams. Almost 9’ minutes before the end of the match, a defensive distraction in Chile gave Los Leones the opportunity to score the first goal of the match, which came from a penalty corner. The scoreboard favored Argentina 2-0 at halftime.
Chile opened the game in the second half, trying to put the team on the scoreboard and playing much better than in the first half. But Argentina was determined to get the three points and had no mercy at the time of executing the penalty corners. Chile had the opportunity to shorten the difference in the scoreboard but Los Leones had already taken complete control of the match.
The final result was 7-3 in favor of the Argentine team. Friday 14th will bring about definitions in the South American Championship for a place in the finals. Both Chile and Argentina are strong candidates.
