Host country Mexico beat Jamaica 6-1 in the first Men’s Men’s Pool B match of the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games.
The opening stages of the match were evenly contested with both teams unable to breach the other’s defense however Mexico broke the deadlock in the 19th minute with Othon MIGUEL’s field goal. Jamaica’s Jerome DAVIS then brought his team back on level terms with a low reverse stick shot from the right in the 24th minute. Miguel LEON then gave Mexico a 2-1 lead one minute before the end of the first half.
Mexico came out in attack mode in the second half and had Jamaica pegged back in their defensive half for the first ten minutes. The relentless pressure paid off when Francisco AGUILAR scored a well worked goal from the left to make it 3-1 in the 47th minute.
Jamaica were not yet out of the game as they pushed Mexico back and earned a number of penalty corners which they were not able to put away. Guillermo PEDRAZA finished off a counter attacking move in the 59th minute to give Mexico a 4-1 lead. Jamaica despite some brave defending seemed to tire a bit as Mexico continued to attack. Mexico was awarded a penalty stroke in 68th minute which was put away by Francisco AGUILAR and shortly after that Guillermo PEDRAZA sealed his team’s 6-1 victory two minutes from time.
