Dominican Republic beat Bermuda 5-0 in the second round of the Women’s Pool B matches in the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games.
Both teams started cagily with Bermuda creating the best scoring opportunity in the first 10 minutes. Dominican Republic’s Agustina BIROCHO however got her team off the mark with a field goal in the 9th minute. Bermuda worked very hard in defense but found it difficult to get their attack going and Dominican Republic made it 2-0 in the 20th minute with a goal by Albania MARTE.
As the half progressed Dominican Republic continued to assert their dominance and Agustina BIROCHO got her name on the scoreboard again with her second goal in the 32nd minute to give her team a 3-0 lead. The first half ended 4-0 when Benifer MORONTA scored a penalty corner at the last whistle.
Both teams had to battle very strong gusts of wind during the second half but the change in the elements did not stop Dominican Republic as Lucia NAVAMUEL scored a reverse stick shot from a penalty corner in the 44th minute. Bermuda however improved their overall play and held Dominican Republic at bay for the rest of the game. They were unfortunately not able to capitalize on Dominican Republic being down to 9 players in the final minutes of the match.
With this win Dominican Republic remains on top of Pool B with 6 points from 2 games, while Bermuda who are winless so far, are at the bottom of the table.
