The Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF) in conjunction with Bermuda Hockey Federation (BHF) will run a International High Performance Coaching Course, in Hamilton city (Bermuda), simultaneously with the Pan American Cup for Women, in February 2009.

The Course starts Tuesday 10, at 7 pm, with the participant’s registration, followed by the welcome ceremony and dinner at 8 pm, and ends Sunday 15 noon.

Three Conductors will be in charge of this Course. Two qualified FIH Coaches (Shiaz Virjee from Canada, FIH Coach and head conductor; William Gaudette from USA, FIH Coach, assistant conductor) and Jorgelina Rimoldi, former Olympic and World Cup medalist from Argentina, will conduct this Course. Coaches from participant countries, and special guests, may be also presenters at the Course.

All conductors have experience in International training and conducting coaching courses at different levels, as well as training teams for International Tournaments.

Potential participants to the PAHF HP Coaching Course should have experience as coaches at Development and High Performance level and good understanding of the game. (Please see general criteria for participation).

This Course will be run in English and will be an excellent opportunity for Pan American coaches, specially for coaches from USA, Canada and Caribbean, to gain knowledge and expertise during the exchange with colleagues of the Continent.

Participation. Registration will be limited to 25 participants. A maximum of 5 observers will be welcomed.

Aptitude of the participants. Participant coaches must have a good knowledge and experience in hockey training, in development and high performance areas.

  • High Performance Coaching is the training of adult hockey players at a high level and the training of teams for High Performance Competition at International level.
  • Development Coaching is the training of Young players (up to U21) in all countries and of adult players in countries where hockey is still, at a development stage.

Participants should be able to transfer their new “know-how” to other coaches within their countries so PAHF can be sure that Coaching standards will improve thru this progressive and effective education and process of education.

Participation Cost. The cost for the participation in the course is 610 US$.

PAHF WILL NOT CHARGE fees for the attendance of this Course. The cost is to cover expenses for transport, accommodation, meals and materials for the course. Participants will, have with no extra charge, 5 nights accommodation in double room or triple, all meals from Tuesday 10, February 2009 (dinner) to Sunday 15, February 2009 (breakfast), free access to stadium during the Course, local transport, beverages during course hours and official PAHF participation certificate. Special arrangements for participants willing to stay before and/or after the beginning and/or end of the course, is possible at an extra cost.

For extra cost and procedure of payment, please contact Grainne Sweeney who is the contact person representing Bermuda Hockey Federation and will be available for details regarding organization and logistic of the course.

Local or foreign participants willing to make their own arrangements for transport, accommodation and meals can do it with no problem, but will be charge for welcome dinner, lunch and transport from and to stadium, all part of the course organization.

PAHF will inform soon the contact person representing the BHF, who will be available for details regarding organization and logistic of the course.

Program of the Course. The course includes:

  • Welcome dinner and introduction of Conductors and Participants.
  • Presentations and theoretical sessions, practical sessions, discussions, special presentations and contributions of participants.
  • Match analysis of PANAM Cup Tournament matches.
  • Official Closing and presentation of certificates of participation plus a CD prepared by the participants with material from the course.

Note: All participants will receive the complete program of the course after their final registration on February 10, 7 pm. Coaches must bring sport clothing and hockey sticks for practical sessions.

The application for participation to the course is ongoing. PAHF Members National Associations may require the participation of their coaches (see above criteria of participant acceptance), sending the attached application form duly filled in, signed and/or supported by the National Hockey Association and coach, by email to PAHF @
before January 20th, 2009, DEADLINE OF APPLICATIONS.

Eligibility. PAHF Development and Coaching Committee will consider the background of the coaches but will also ensure as many countries have the opportunity to participate. PAHF will inform National Associations of the status of their coaches' application on January 15, 2009. Note that some applications may be rejected due to number of applications, or incomplete data and/or signature of responsible of National Association, or because the participant does not match the eligibility criteria.
