PAHF Umpiring Clinic
in Conjunction with California Cup Tournament

May 22-26, 2003

An "International Umpiring Clinic" for both women and men umpires from the Pan American region, especially from Caribbean, Central and North American countries, will be held during the annual international "California Cup" (CalCup) Hockey Tournament in the Los Angeles (LA) area at Moorpark College.

Mr. Ray O'Connor (Ireland), one of the most accomplished and active Olympic Games/World Cup Grade I umpires will serve as a clinic conductor. In addition to umpiring more than 140 international games, two Olympic Games, two World Cups, two European Championships and five Champion Trophies, Ray's recent significant appointments included umpiring the final of the men's World Cup in Kuala Lumpur (2002) and the final of the just completed 1st Indoor World Cup in Leipzig (Germany).

The clinic will be held from noon on Thursday, May 22 (the day before the start of the Tournament), and continue during the first three days of the tournament (Friday to Sunday, May 23-25). In addition to classroom sessions, blocks of time will be reserved daily for all participants to observe and evaluate, together with the clinic conductor, the umpires involved in targeted games and discuss various aspects of umpiring. In order to maintain the highest level of instruction, "national" rated umpires with the international advancement potential, and all international umpires are encouraged to participate.

The "California Cup" (CalCup) tournament is organized by Mr. Tom Harris and a group of highly dedicated individuals from the area. Mr. Dave Jackson (e-mail: - Phone: 805-523-2790) has agreed to coordinate the seminar as a representative of the CalCup Organizing Committee. Umpires selected and confirmed by the CalCup and PAHF Umpiring Committees will have opportunities for umpiring tournament games and be reimbursed $20 - 25 per game and a hotel room, double occupancy. All the arrangements needs to be made in advance and confirmed by Mr. Dave Jackson and a representative of the PAHF Umpiring Committee.
