US Women's Indoor Field Hockey Team Secures World Cup Berth with Thrilling Shootout Victory Against Argentina

In a high-stakes showdown at the 2024 Indoor Pan American Cup, the U.S. Women’s National Indoor Team clinched victory against Argentina to secure their spot in the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup. Trailing early on, the No. 8-ranked U.S. team fought back valiantly, drawing level with Argentina at 5-5 by the end of regulation, in a match filled with six second-half goals.

The game reached a thrilling climax in the shootout, where Team USA held their nerve, converting all three chances while Argentina missed one, sealing a 3-2 triumph for the Americans.

Despite facing an initial deficit, standout performances from players like Erin Matson and Reese D’Ariano helped propel the U.S. team forward, with D'Ariano's hat trick proving pivotal in keeping their World Cup dreams alive.

With this victory, the U.S. Women’s National Indoor Team earns their ticket to the 2025 FIH Indoor World Cup, marking a significant achievement as they aim to improve upon their ninth-place finish in the previous edition in 2023.

The 2024 Indoor Pan American Cup will be held in Calgary, AB, from March 19-22, 2024. The last time Canada hosted the Indoor Pan American Championships was in 2005 in Waterloo, Ontario. Since then, the event has taken place in Argentina, Venezuela, Uruguay, Guyana, and in 2021, the event was held in Pennsylvania, USA.
