A Historic Milestone for Hockey in Guatemala

It is with deep pride and a great sense of solemnity that the Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF) is pleased to announce a momentous moment for the sport in theregion. What for years was a shared vision and a desire, today is consolidated as a tangible project: the prompt construction of the first official hockey field in Guatemala. Which isvery important for the development of Hockey in Central America.

This dream is materialized thanks to the joint effort, unwavering dedication and collaborative work of institutions committed to sports development.

On October 18, a protocol visit was made to the works of the new sports campus of theUniversidad de Occidente in San Cristóbal, Mixco. On this significant occasion, PAHF President Alberto "Coco" Budeisky was received by Andrés Ayau, President of theMontesquieu Foundation, and Paolo César Camposeco, President of the GuatemalanHockey Association.

"During my visit to Guatemala for the Central American Games, I had the opportunity tovisit the works of the Universidad de Occidente, where they are building, in addition to theschool for 600 students, a University for 1,200 students, various facilities and a universitycampus, two outdoor hockey fields and two Hockey5s fields, which will turn Guatemala into the hub of Central American hockey. This project, which has been 5 years in themaking and in which the Guatemalan Hockey Association, PAHF and the Universidad de Occidente are working together, is scheduled to open for October 2026. We hope thathockey athletes from Guatemala, Central America, the continent and the world, can enjoythese facilities for many years to come."

The future campus, which stands on a 157,728 m² site, is destined to become an epicenterfor federated and non-federated sport. Inside, it will house two regulation fields for Hockey 11 and one for Hockey5s, facilities that have been designed under the most rigorous and high international standards.

The infrastructure will have world-class certifications, including the NFPA, FAST INFRA and IFC Standards, thus guaranteeing not only excellence for competitive practice, but alsothe most absolute safety for athletes.

PAHF has had the honor of providing its endorsement and specialized technical advice for the design and construction of these fields, ensuring that they comply with all internationalrequirements and regulations, positioning Guatemala on the global hockey map.

This project is not just the construction of an infrastructure; it is the cornerstone of a legacy, the seed of future generations of athletes and a testament to the power of collaboration to grow our sport.
